Brazilian Chocolate Cake
If you’re on the hunt for the perfect moist chocolate cake, you can stop looking. This traditional Brazilian recipe will change your definition of dessert!
Unlike regular chocolate cakes, the big secret to this batter is the hot water, which brings out the chocolate flavor and makes the texture incredibly light and soft.

But what really steals the show is the frosting: a syrup boiled on the stove until perfectly creamy, poured directly over the cake while it’s still hot.
The frosting seeps into the cake, creating a rich, intense, and irresistible top layer.
It’s a simple recipe made with everyday ingredients, yet it delivers bakery-quality results. Get ready to fall in love at the very first bite!
Ingredients:
- 3 eggs
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup chocolate powder (half unsweetened cocoa powder 100% and half sweetened chocolate powder)
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 pinch of salt
- 1 cup hot water
Frosting
- 4 tablespoons milk
- 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 cup sugar

Cake Instructions:
- Beat the eggs with the sugar, oil, chocolate powder, and flour. Then, carefully stir in the hot water and, lastly, the baking powder.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) for 40 minutes. You can do the toothpick test: insert a toothpick into the center of the cake, and if it comes out clean, it’s ready.
- Unmold the cake while it’s still hot.
Frosting Instructions
- Place all the ingredients in a saucepan and heat until it comes to a boil.
- Keep the heat low and stir constantly to prevent burning. Let it boil for about 15 minutes, or until you can see the bottom of the pan when you scrape it with a spoon. This means it has reached the perfect frosting consistency. Once you can see the bottom of the pan, boil it for another 5 minutes.
- Finally, pour the hot frosting directly over the cake.
- Let it cool and serve!
