Fluffy Rice

Ingredients

2 cups long-grain white rice
4 cups boiling water
1 clove garlic, minced
1 tablespoon vegetable oil or olive oil
1 teaspoon salt

Instructions

Wash the rice: Rinse 2 cups of rice under cold running water until the water runs clear. This removes excess starch and is the secret to fluffy grains.

Sauté the garlic: Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a medium saucepan over low heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté until fragrant—do not let it burn.

Sauté the rice: Add the washed rice to the pan and toss to coat with the garlic-infused oil. Sauté for 1 to 2 minutes until the rice looks slightly translucent.

Add water and salt: Carefully pour in 4 cups of hot water. Add 1 teaspoon of salt and stir once to combine.

Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low. Cover the pan and cook without stirring for 15 minutes or until the water has been absorbed.

Let it rest: Turn off the heat and let the rice rest, still covered, for 5 minutes. Serve.
